- Description
- Synthesis report of the results by the ENERGIA Gender and Energy Research Programme, as part of its contribution to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The 2014-2019 study explores gender, energy and poverty linkages in twelve countries in six thematic areas, including productive uses of energy, the political economy of energy sector policies and women’s energy entrepreneurship. Results show that energy policies that do not explicitly target women, often result in inequal access to energy services between men and women. Achieving gender equality outcomes requires a change in energy policy as well as in processes and organisations that drive these processes.

The data collected pre-COVID-19 provide insights into the distribution of these responsibilities within various types of households. . .The publication was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, implying not only a health but also an economic and social crisis, especially for families and women. Increase in unpaid care work, losses in income and paid work, vulnerable conditions of single mothers are some examples.

- Description
- Analysis of the demographic situation of the European Union (EU-28). Statistics show that the EU population is stagnating and it is expected to decline in the longer term. While the EU population is ageing as life expectancy increases, fertility rates are lower than in the past. This has serious implications for the economy, healthcare and pensions. Free movement within the EU and migration from third countries also play an important role in shaping demography in individual member states and regions. .The 'in-focus' section of the 2020 edition looks at the relationship between food and nutrition and demographic changes. It shows that, however food quality and healthier eating habits lead to higher life expectancy, the EU has to deal with and prevent the causes of diet-related chronic conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
