- Description
- The Special Rapporteur addresses the sociocultural context of gender discrimination by defining the concept of patriarchalism. He denounces the negative impact on education and insists on the importance of ensuring not only girls’ access to school but also their completion of the education cycle. The report identifies obstacles to education for girls, such as early marriages and pregnancies, child labour (especially domestic work) and armed conflicts. He .describes aggravating factors and the key role of human rights education and its concrete implementation at the classroom level to combat gender discrimination and stereotypes. The report also summarizes replies received to the questionnaire sent to different stakeholders to solicit information on the realization of the right to education for girls.

- Description
- 'Twenty years after the adoption of Beijing, this version of the Political Declaration is not what women need. There has been tremendous progress toward gender equality and the realization of the human rights of women and girls. However, many of the gains that women and girls have made are under threat and women and girls worldwide face extraordinary and unprecedented challenges, including economic inequality, climate change and ocean acidification, and rising, violent fundamentalisms. At a time when urgent action is needed to fully realize gender equality, the human rights and empowerment of women and girls, we need renewed commitment, a heightened level of ambition, real resources, and accountability. This Political Declaration, instead, represents a bland reaffirmation of existing commitments that fails to match the level of ambition in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and in fact threatens a major step backward. Includes a list of participants.'

- Description
- The report is the fifth review of the overall developments at EU level related to the 12 areas .of concern as mentioned in the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), at the United Nations World Conference on Women, 4-15 September 1995. The report focuses particularly on trends and developments observed from 2013 to March 2019, with exceptions such as the coming into force of the Work–Life Balance Directive or the elections to the European Parliament (May 2019). The review also reflects on the progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all UN Member States in 2015. These include a specific SDG related to gender equality (SDG 5). .The executive summary highlights key findings on five themes: gender inequalities in the economy: gender-responsive public infrastructure, social protection and services: freedom from gender-based violence, stereotypes and stigma: parity democracy, accountability and gender-responsive institutions: peaceful and inclusive societies.
