Based on the findings of scientific research conducted in a number of African countries and on exchanges .between academics and education practitioners at regional seminars, this guide aims to explore the textbook’s .possibilities as a vehicle for gender equality in order to meet EFA goals in a gender-sensitive way. The two objectives of this guide are 1) to show how gender inequality is constructed in textbooks through the curriculum: and 2) to give actors involved the tools to revise textbooks or use existing textbooks critically, whether in the teacher/learner relationship, among individuals involved in the textbook chain (from design to use), or outside the school in families and the community.
