- Description
- This brochure presents the key messages of a report concerning the advancement of the '2017 G20 roadmap for digitalisation: policies for a digital future', in particular the support of equal participation of women in the digital economy. It provides policy directions for governments by analyzing the root of the digital gender divide. .First it identifies the causes and effects of womens and girls' digital gaps through three areas of policy action: include, upskill and innovate. It focuses on issues concerning hurdles to access, affordability, lack of education, lower educational enrolment in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and ICT disciplines, limited use of digital tool, payment and glass ceiling. Then it describes the role of policy in narrowing these digital and gender gaps.

- Description
- This volume examines European perspectives on the historical relations that women have maintained with information and communication technologies (ICTs), since the telegraph. It describes how gendered networks have formed around ICT since the late 19th Century, it reviews the gendered issues revealed by the conflict between the actress Ms Sylviac and the French telephone administration in 1904, or by ‘feminine’ blogs, it examines how gender representations, age categories, and uses of ICT interact and are mutually formed in children’s magazines, it illuminates the participation of women in the early days of computing, through a case study on the Rothamsted Statistics Department, it presents a comparative study of women in computing in France, Finland and the UK, revealing similar gender divisions within the ICT professions of these countries, and it discusses diversity interventions and the part that history could (and should) play to ensure women do not take second place in specific occupational sectors.
