- Description
- This volume considers the interrelation between bodily interventions, intimate labour and vulnerable bodies. It examines how different kinds of biotechnology processes and regulations affect those who seek interventions and help. The interventions include for example help-seeking in the context of intimate partner violence, body modifications for those affected by female genital cutting or gender-affirming surgeries. The authors argue that the vulnerabilities created by these interventions, derive partly from the interventions themselves but also from the ways different regulations enable or disable people access to medical treatment.

- Description
- Sweden has the reputation of being one of the most gender-equal countries in the world, and it is often held up as a model for other societies—but the reality is much more complicated, as this volume shows. This book provides an analysis of the myth of Swedish gender equality and demonstrates how that dominant idea has become a form of heteronormative, racially specific nationalism that ultimately excludes those who fall outside the social norm.
