This factsheet defines the gender pay gap within European Union. Women earn over 16% less than men per hour in the EU. It shows the differences in income per hour between women and men among the EU countries, provides facts and fables and explains why it is crucial to close the gender pay gap.
This publication reflects on gender equality policy issues at European level. It re-examines visions for gender equality, priorities to be pursued and new challenges to be met. The collection of essays is grouped across four thematic areas: a) work/life balance (‘future of work’ challenge, paid work-time reduction policies, flexibility in the workplace), b) inequalities, discrimination and welfare (gender pay gap, poverty, segregation in the labour market) and c) power relations in society (closing gender gap in entrepreneurship, economic independence, sexual harassment and violence against women).
