- Description
- Synthesis report of the results by the ENERGIA Gender and Energy Research Programme, as part of its contribution to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The 2014-2019 study explores gender, energy and poverty linkages in twelve countries in six thematic areas, including productive uses of energy, the political economy of energy sector policies and women’s energy entrepreneurship. Results show that energy policies that do not explicitly target women, often result in inequal access to energy services between men and women. Achieving gender equality outcomes requires a change in energy policy as well as in processes and organisations that drive these processes.

- Description
- This report focuses on identifying what works to address unpaid care work regarding women in developing countries. Unpaid care work is usually carried out by women and can prevent their full economic participation. The report examines existing knowledge of policy options for unpaid care work across regions, in four policy areas: infrastructure, social protection, public services and promotion of shared responsibility within the household. To understand the different approaches to each of the four sectors, a global literature review and research visits were made to Brazil, Kenya and Nepal. The importance of addressing the burden of unpaid care work is recognised in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 through adoption of Target 5.4: “Recognise and value unpaid care and domestic work”.

- Description
- 'The Gender Review discusses global and regional trends in achieving parity in education access, participation and completion and in selected learning outcomes, stressing that there is much room for progress. It then shifts to an evidence-based discussion of relationships between education, gender and sustainable development by discussing work, civic and political engagement and leadership, as well as health and well-being. It concludes with ways forward: what action is implied by evidence and data for achieving more gender-equal societies and how progress towards such societies is to be measured.'

- Description
- This study examines the evidence on the role of women in the energy transition in the European Union and the extent of gender equality in the process particularly in respect of the renewable energy sector. The study identifies gender inequalities preventing women from the involvement in the energy transition and career advancement in this area and assesses how the transfer to the sustainable energy model will affect gender equality and the role of women as actors of change. It provides best practices in overcoming the barriers to gender equality in the energy transition and concludes with recommendations to the EU and national decision makers.
