Based on the story of a female-to-male transgender Lloyd explores the legal options for transgenders and the position the law's biases impose upon transgenders. By discussing theories of 'the normal' Lloyd argues that the law acts in the service of a self-affirming idea of 'the normal' when deployed to dehumanize transgender people. She describes the ways transgenders are forced to configure their identities in order to become recognized legal subjects. She examines the possibilities for protection of sex discrimination, disability and sexual orientation laws.
