This study examines key elements of the European policy agenda about gender equality in the media sector. It reviews existing research on women's representation within media content and the media .workforce. Interviewed women working in media report genderbased discrimination and inequality of opportunity within their industries, including pay, hiring, allocation of work and promotion. Women who experience discrimination and harassment often have no recourse to fair process.The study provides analysis of actions to promote gender equality in the media at both EU and member state levels. Finally, it presents case studies of gender equality in the media sector in Austria, Malta, Sweden and the UK.
