- Description
- Analysis by regions, countries and types of migration reveals a strong variation regarding levels and features of female and male migration. This approach shows the distinct ways in which gender roles, perceptions and relations, each embedded in a particular cultural, geographical, and socioeconomic context, affect migration dynamics. This volume demonstrates that gender matters at each stage of the migration process.

- Description
- A number of historical events of the twentieth century gave rise to migration, immigration, and exile to and within the European continent. This collection represents an effort to raise consciousness about the marginalization of exiled women - artists, writers, political figures, as well as members of ethnic and religious minorities.

- Description
- The book addresses the challenges faced by women on the two shores of the Mediterranean. While in the European Union’s Mediterranean countries inequality is mostly linked to the social sphere and in particular refers to labour market dynamics, in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) area the social and private spheres are blended and cultural and religious factors have a great impact on women autonomy and opportunities beyond the family perimeter. The chapters in this book were originally published in a special issue of the Journal of the Balkans and Near Eastern Studies.
