- Description
- This book provides an overview of the gender rules encountered in Europe in the period between approximately 500 and 1500 C.E. The essays speak to how best to uncover the experiences of ordinary people from archives formed mainly by and about elite males, and how to combine social histories of lived experiences with cultural histories of gendered discourses and identities. The collection focuses on Western Europe in the Middle Ages but offers some consideration of medieval Islam and Byzantium.

- Description
- This book addresses a range of topics, including gendered readings of texts, legal issues in marriage and divorce, ritual practices, and women's literary expressions , along with feminist influences within the Muslim and Jewish communities and issues affecting Jewish and Muslim women in contemporary society. The volume focuses attention on the theoretical innovations that gender scholarship has brought to the study of Muslim and Jewish experiences. At a time when Judaism and Islam are often discussed as though they were inherently at odds, this book offers a reconsideration of the connections between these two traditions.

- Description
- The book is focused on intersectionality between gender, race and disability and the question of whether this intersection can be adequately addressed in (EU) law. The discussion rests on two basic assumptions. First, the multiplication of 'discrimination grounds' in EU law and other legal regimes should not result in a dilution of the demands of equality law. Accordingly, the book focuses on the three key grounds - race, gender and disability.. Second, any multi-ground non-discrimination law framework needs to engage with the question of discrimination on several grounds.
