- Description
- In this volume, human rights advocates and scholars argue that the memory of trauma is gendered and that women's voices and perspectives are key to our understanding of the dynamics that emerge in the context of genocidal violence. The genocides of modern history such as Rwanda, Armenia, the Holocaust and their effects have been well documented, but how do the experiences of female victims and perpetrators differ from those of men? Examined is how women consistently are targets for the sexualized violence that serves as an instrument of ethnic cleansing, how female perpetrators take advantage of the new power structures, and how women are involved in the struggle for justice in post-genocidal contexts. By focusing on women, the book helps to understand the relationship between misogyny and violence in societies where genocide erupts.

- Description
- A new reflection on rape in wartime, this collection of essays presents 14 case studies, covering conflicts from across the globe, including Greece, Bangladesh, Columbia, Chechnya, Israel, India, Nigeria and Europe. Providing a truly global and interdisciplinary approach - including offerings from experts in legal, anthropological, cultural and gender studies - the authors examine the context in which wartime rape occurs, the specificity of rape as a universally recognised transgression, the place of large scale rape in public memories of war and the long term legacies of rape. They also confront the challenge of writing about intimate forms of violence from both the human and scientific perspective.

- Description
- From early modernity to today, society has encountered forms of interpersonal violence. Through exploration of areas within Europe and Russia to Africa, America and Asia, this collection presents various forms of interpersonal violence in different times, places, institutional orders and relationships. The book demonstrates how the specificity of temporality and spatiality affect the manifestation of violence, how the dynamics of intersectional and institutional differences are located in social space and time and how the different forms of violence in different times are affectively, conceptually and discursively connected.

- Description
- Collection of feminist essays about women as world's changemakers. In this twenty-first #MeToo era, women speak up more and more about the abusive behavior of notorious men like Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Cosby. The contributors cover the evolving landscape of the movement against sexual violence and outline how the world can change if we trust women. They discuss what would happen if people for example take women’s experiences of online harassment seriously and center survivors.

- Description
- This volume contributes to debates which seek to move feminist scholarship away from the reification of the war/peace and security/economy divides. By gendering (in)securities in ‘states of exception’ and other paradigms of government related to it, especially in postcolonial and neocolonial contexts, the book provides an approach that allows us to study the complex and interrelated security logics, which constitute the messy realities of different – and particularly vulnerable – subjects’ lives.
