- Description
- The first-person narratives of this collection show us a world where gender exists along a spectrum, a web, a multidimensional space. Storytellers break away from mainstream portrayals of gender diversity, cutting across lines of age, race, ethnicity, ability, class, religion, family, and relationships. From Suzi, who wonders whether she’ll ever “feel” like a woman after living fifty years as a man, to Aubri, who grew up in a cash-strapped fundamentalist household, to Sand, who must reconcile the dual roles of trans advocate and therapist, the writers’ conceptions of gender are inextricably intertwined with broader systemic issues.

- Description
- Spare Rib remains one of the most iconic symbols of Second Wave Feminism, its influence far out-living the span of its publication (1972-1993). This collection examines various aspects of the magazine in order to explore the ways in which it has influenced society in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, as well as the lives of individual readers. By analysing articles from a post-feminist perspective and using cross-generational interviews of Spare Rib readers the significance and endurance of the publication is demonstrated.

It is the party that extended the equal franchise, had the first woman MP to sit Parliament, and produced the first two women Prime Ministers.

- Description
- In this monograph, the authors explain why artistically ambitious women writers continue turning to the short story, a genre that has not yet attained the degree of literary prestige and social recognition the novel has had in the modern period. In this volume, the editors endorse the view that the genre still retains its potential as a vehicle for the expression of female experience alternative to and/or critical with dominant patriarchal ideology present at the very onset of the development of the modern British short story at the turn of the nineteenth century.
