- Description
- This book contributes to current dialogues that construct Black Feminist Theory as critical engagement within dominant American institutions that oppress women of color in their daily lives. Women of color face social challenges that exist at the intersections of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation. While some challenges are common to women of color, others reflect the distinct journey each woman makes as she negotiates her identity within her family, professional circle, social and romantic relationships, and community.

The series has sparked debate: does it celebrate diversity or is it told from the perspective of white privilege, with characters embodying some of the most racist and sexist stereotypes in television history? Examining the series from a feminist perspective, this book covers topics such as gender, race, class, sexuality, transgenderism, mass incarceration and the prison industrial complex, disability, and sexual assault.

- Description
- This book confronts the historic devaluation of lesbian-feminist politics within Anglo-American discourse and ignites a transnational and transgenerational discussion regarding the relevance of lesbian feminisms in today’s world. The writers consider the wider place of lesbian feminisms within queer theory, post-colonial feminism and the movement for LGBT rights. They consider how lesbian feminisms can contribute to discussions on intersectionality, engage with trans activism and the need for trans-inclusion, to ultimately show how lesbian feminisms can offer a transformative approach to today’s sexual and gender politics.

- Description
- This book reconnects the roots of black feminism to contemporary activism in the United States, describing the contributions of the black feminist organization, the Combahee River Collective (CRC). Forty years ago, in 1977, the CRC founders published a statement the so-called Combahee River Collective Statement. One remarkable aspect of this radical collective was its intersectional analysis of the roots of black women's oppression and inequality. In this collection of interviews, founding members of the CRC and contemporary activists - e.g. from #BlackLivesMatter - reflect on the legacy of its contributions to black feminism and its influence on today's struggles.
