Er worden zes thema's belicht. Het eerste thema betreft de arbeidsparticipatie van mannen en vrouwen, o.m. in relatie tot persoonskenmerken en de zorg voor kinderen. - Description
- In this study, authorsrs focus on informal economies such as health care, domestic work, street vending, and the garment industry, where displaced women do often work. Because such informal labor markets are unregulated, many of these workers face abusive working conditions that are not reported for fear of job loss or deportation. In examining the complex dynamics of how immigrant women navigate political and economic uncertainties, this collection highlights the important role of citizenship status in defining immigrant women's opportunities, wages, and labor conditions.

- Description
- In 2013, India’s parliament enacted the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, known as the POSH Act, to ensure a safe work environment for women. While women in India are increasingly speaking out against sexual abuse at work, in part due to the global #MeToo movement in 2017, many, particularly in the informal sector, are still constrained by stigma, fear of retribution, and institutional barriers to justice. .This report examines the enforcement of the POSH Act and gaps in mechanisms, particularly in the informal sector which employs 95 percent of all women workers. It is based on field research, secondary literature and 85 interviews with women in India working in both the formal and informal sectors, trade union officials, labor and women rights activists, lawyers, and academics. .Human Rights Watch found limited government efforts to enforce the law to protect women in the informal or unorganized sector, these include domestic workers and those employed by the government to implement various welfare programs.

- Description
- This study analyses the socio-economic and health status of women workers in the informal sector in Chennai, India. Women homeworkers face many issues such as long hours of work, low wages, meagre rates per piece, lack of social security and lack of union or organizational support. More importantly, their conditions of work and health are deplorable. The findings reveal that female home-based workers are subject to multiple forms of exploitation such as low wages, delayed and irregular payments and sporadic work. In conclusion, the researcher states that despite these problems, home-based work is the most suitable avenue for poverty alleviation and employment generation among urban women. However, low wages, lack of micro-capital for entrepreneurial ventures and non-payment of dues on time are serious issues that these workers face.
