- Description
- This book presents an overview of current research into constructs of gender, the role of religion and the importance of situation, and looks closely at what Islam has to say about women's participation in sport and what Muslim women have to say about their participation in sport. It highlights the challenges and opportunities for women in sport in both Muslim and non-Muslim countries, utilising a series of case-studies in various countries. Material on Iraq, Palestine and Bosnia and Herzegovina provides insights into the impact of war on sporting activities for women. The book also seeks to make recommendations for improving access to sport for girls and women from Muslim communities.

- Description
- The twelve essays in this publication present a continuum of cases where the state enables violence against women - from state-sponsored torture to lax prosecution of sexual assault. Some contributors uncover buried histories of state violence against women throughout the twentieth century, in locations as diverse as Ireland, Indonesia, and Guatemala. Others spotlight ongoing struggles to define the state’s role in preventing gendered violence, from domestic abuse policies in the Russian Federation to anti-trafficking laws in the United States.

- The overall aim of this policy brief is to assess the implementation of the women, peace and security (WPS) policy framework in the work of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. The analysis and recommendations build on our well-established policy guidance project, the Monthly Action Points (MAP) on Women, Peace and Security, as well as broader advocacy throughout 2019. This policy brief also highlights key trends that are addressed by the recommendations presented in the NGO Working Group’s 2020 Civil Society Roadmap on Women, Peace and Security.
