It synthesizes the opportunities and challenges that exist to promote gender equality and women’s human rights in the context of UN reform and greater coordination among wide-ranging development actors. The practical guidance and support comes in the form of tips, examples, and good practices summarized from the work of experienced theme groups. Source material from a cross-section of UN system agencies has been added to the base of experience.
This fact sheet aims at raising awareness among decision-makers and humanitarian agents on mainstreaming gender issues in emergency and rehabilitation programmes. It highlights the challenges faced by men and women in natural disasters and armed conflicts, and the process of addressing needs arising in response to the resulting changes in the external environment. It explains what FAO and other agencies are doing in policy and information, organization and partnerships, and needs assessment and targeting.
