- Description
- This publication accompanies an exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of Vassar College (January till June 2011). Drawing on archival materials and featuring a multi-media display, the exhibition focuses on the college's earliest years, though several themes—such as the college's mission, the curriculum and social issues—are followed through to the present. The common thread is Vassar College's interaction with the idea of liberal education. Contains a chapter about women's rights, women's education and the founding of Vassar College: 'To Unfold Such Powers': Nineteenth-Century American Women's Rights, Women's Education, and the Founding of Vassar College, written by Rebecca Edwards.
