In this article a description of the World Bank, its governance structure and its new gender mainstreaming strategy. It concludes with some action suggestions for gender equality advocates.
At the 49th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held 28 February till 11 March 2005 at the United Nations in New York, a clearly worded declaration reaffirmed the commitments made in Beijing, connected the Beijing promises to the Millennium Development Goals, and pledged further action towards their full implementation.
