This anthology provides research focused on the construction of adolescent girls’ sexuality in the media. The volume includes a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives from the humanities and the social sciences, addressing how girls and others respond to, work with, and even resist prevailing media representations of girls’ sexualities and how they use contemporary media as a form of sexual expression.
The authors deal with iissues of political economy, new ICTs and cybercultures and digital media policy, media and identity, sexuality and sexualisation, and postfeminism. They argue that feminist media scholars should broaden and deepen their theoretical frameworks and methodologies so as to provide a better sense of the conceptual complexities of feminist media studies and empirical realities of contemporary media forms, practices and audiences.
