- Description
- This book presents an analysis of the linkages between inequality, development, and growth from a feminist economics perspective. It examines connections between intergroup inequality and macroeconomic outcomes, considering various channels through which gender, growth, and development interact. Using a range of analytical methods, country studies, and levels of aggregation, the contributors argue that inequalities based on gender, race, ethnicity, and class undermine the ability of people to provision and live fully to their capabilities. Authors examine the effect of macroeconomic policies and economic growth on inequalities in material resources and well-being, as well as the effects of inequality on economic growth. Finally, the volume offers a rich array of policy options for promoting gender equality as both an intrinsic goal and a step toward improving well-being and broadly-shared development. This book was published as a special issue of Feminist Economics.

- Description
- This book connects the 19th- and 20th-century migrations in global transcultural perspective. It emphasizes macro-regional internal interactions between and within macro-regions. The essays look at migrant workers experiences in constraining frames and the options they seize or constraints they circumvent. It traces the development from 19th-century proletarian migrations to industries and plantations across the globe to 20th- and 21st-century domestics and caregiver migrations. It integrates male and female migration and shows how women have always been present in mass migrations.

- Description
- In this volume the contributors try to bridge the gap between understanding the majority Han and ethnic minorities in regard to women and gender in contemporary Chinese societies. The first section focuses on gender traditions among ethnic minorities which compete with the norms of Han patriarchy. The second section emphasizes the impact of radical social transformation on gender systems and practices among both Han and ethnic minorities. The third section underscores socio-cultural diversity and complexity in resistance to Han patriarchal norms from a broad perspective.

- Description
- This book explores how climate institutions in industrialized countries work to further the recognition of social differences and integrate this understanding in climate policy making. The volume investigates policy-making in climate institutions from the perspective of power as it relates to gender. It also considers other intersecting social factors at different levels of governance, from the global to the local level and extending into climate-relevant sectors. The chapters throughout draw on examples from various institutions including national ministries, transport and waste management authorities, and local authorities, as well as the European Union and the UNFCCC regime. The different meanings of gender equality are explored comparatively in relation to the issues of family policies, domestic violence, and gender inequality in politics, while specific national contexts discuss the issues of prostitution (Austria, Slovenia), migration (the Netherlands), homosexual rights (Spain), and antidiscrimination (Hungary). Each chapter will provide insights on the ongoing theoretical and political debate about gender equality.

- Description
- This collection explores family relations in two types of 'migrant families' in Europe: mixed families and transnational families. Based on qualitative fieldwork and surveys, the contributors analyse gender and intergenerational relations from a variety of standpoints and migratory flows. In their examination of family life in a migratory context, the authors develop theoretical approaches from the social sciences that go beyond migration studies, such as intersectionality, the solidarity paradigm, care circulation, reflexive modernization and gender convergence theory.

- Description
- Gender quotas are a controversial policy measure. However, over the past twenty years they have been widely adopted around the world and especially in Europe. They are now used in politics, corporate boards, state and local public administration and even in civil society organizations. This book explores this phenomenon, providing a comparative perspective on gender quotas' adoption across thirteen European countries (Belgium, France, Slovenia, Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Germany, Austria, Norwege, Sweden, and Denmark). It also studies resistance to gender quotas by political parties and supreme courts.
