- Description
- Following the structure of the first edition of Gendered Intersections, this second edition examines the intersections across and between gender, race, culture, class, ability, sexuality, age and geographical location from the perspectives of academics, artists and activists. Using different mediums — academic research, poetry, statistics, visual essays, fiction, emails and music — this collection explores gender through issues such as Aboriginal self-governance, poverty, work, spirituality, globalization and community activism. This new edition brings a greater focus on politics, and gender and the law. It also includes access to a Gendered Intersections website, which contains several performances by poets and a Gendered Intersections Quiz, which highlights the historical and contemporary contributions of women and non-hegemonic men to Canadian society.

- Description
- This book presents a critical study of the ways in which contemporary society understands suicide, exploring suicide across a range of key expert bodies of knowledge. With attention to Durkheim's founding study of suicide, as well as discourses within sociology, law, medicine, psy-knowledge and newsprint media, this book demonstrates that suicide cannot be understood without understanding how gender shapes it, and without giving explicit attention to the manner in which prevailing claims privilege some interpretations of suicide above others. Revealing the masculine and masculinist terms in which our current knowledge of suicide is constructed, the book explores the relationship between our grasp of suicide and problematic ideas connected to the body, agency, violence, race and sexuality.

- Description
- The author examines the complexity and uniqueness of each person's personal creation of sexuality and gender and the ways that these interrelate with other aspects of psychic and cultural life. Chapters address issues such as women and work, women and motherhood, and men and violence. Concluding chapters elaborate on the personal affective, conflictual, and defensive constellations and processes that create sexuality and gender in each individual. Ending with a chapter on homosexualities as compromise formations, Chodorow deepens her account of clinical individuality and sex-gender transference-countertransference while bringing her readers back to Freud and to the many strands that followed, as she consolidates a consistent line of interest in sexuality and gender, theory and practice.

- Description
- Žarkov analyzes representations of female and male bodies in the Croatian and Serbian press in the late 1980s and in the early 1990s, during the war. She argues that the Balkan war was not a war between ethnic groups, but that ethnicity was produced by the war itself. She argues that both the representational practices of the 'media war' and those of the 'ethnic war' depended on specific notions of femininity and masculinity, (hetero)sexuality and ethnicity.
