In this book the various authors discuss the relationship of gender and nation in South and Eastern European countries, including Bulgaria, the Kosovo, Serbia, Romania, and Croatia, but also in Austria, Germany and the United States. The authors argue from different scientific points of view and scholarly traditions. Contributions explain why the relationship of gender and nation is so vital, and why it leads to inclusion of the male self and the exclusion of the female other. Other contributions give examples of historical events in specific regional or political environments and describe the resulting social transformation processes.
