- Description
- While citing the provisions of the Consitution granting equality to women and men, the book carries a commentary on many aspects of gender justice conceptualised and turned into legal enactments during the five decades of India's history after independence. Laws pertaining to inheritance, labour, human richts, prevention of violence, representation of women in media and several particular matters are shown to have relevance to contemporary lives. It draws attention not only to the rubrics of the law important for women but also speaks of the role society and institutions can play in promoting access to law.

- Description
- In this volume scholars use a public health model to examine current societal responses to interpersonal violence. Authors examine the efficacy of medical and psychological treatments for victims, families, and perpetrators, and justice system responses to various forms of child abuse, sexual violence, and domestic violence. Interventions are suggested at several levels of prevention, including initiatives designed to eradicate the problem (primary prevention), reduce it among those at risk (secondary prevention), and minimize the negative consequences of violence and stabilize health (tertiary prevention). Finally, the editors provide input for future responses across practice, research, advocacy and policy, at the local and national level.

- Description
- Humphrey explores the evolution of the status offense and its negative impact on the general population of youthful offenders, particularly girls, and the link between running away and the experience of physical and sexual abuse. She argues that although abuse histories are the norm among delinquent girls the role of these histories is downplayed as a key to addressing delinquency issues. It is only when these are taken into account that girls's status offenses and delinquency issues can be addressed. She suggests alternatives to status offense arrest and detention.
