WOMENWITH HILL PEACE CAMPAIGN UPDATE
In the Summer 2001 edition of this newsletter, we featured a couple of paragraphs about the Womenwith Hill Women’s Peace News
has now reached us of their latest activities. The base at Menwith
Hill was successfully closed down for several hours last month
They used the brilliantly simple expedient of supergluing all the
locks! A low-tech strategy, and one that is much beloved of disgruntled yobs on social housing estates

Did you know about..................CAMPAIGN WOMEN
Campaign Women is a group that campaigns and lobbies to raise awareness of issues that perpetuate sexism
and potentially lead to prostitution, sexual abuse and harassment, and the undermining of girls’ self esteem.
They are currently running several campaigns, one of which is lobbying for a ban on Gentleman Clubs. These
clubs are currently legal but have strong links with prostitution. Another of their campaigns involves raising awareness
of and campaigning against the increasing number of advertisements in public places such as billboards and buses that
portray women in a sexually explicit or demeaning manner.
Campaign Women provide practical ways to take action on each issue, providing examples of petitions to use
and whom to write to. Campaign Women are run entirely by volunteers and would like to hear from anyone who wishes
to get involved. They are particularly looking for personal contributions to their website such as the latest developments
on issues concerning women, clippings, images, relevant articles and book reviews
Their website is www.campaignwomen.co.uk and they can be contacted at campaign@campaignwomen.co.uk

GINGER BEER
www.gingerbeer.co.uk advertises itself as the ‘London Lesbian
Guide’ and it does what it says on the packet, hosting a growing
directory of lesbian clubs, with a detailed page devoted to each.
However, you don’t have to be a disco diva to find something to
interest you here. The listings are wide ranging and contain some
really intriguing entries. Here you can find contact information for the
Circo Rum Ba Ba women’s circus, the Gaycrawler search engine
and the Pacchamama Services cleaning agency (‘Latin American
cleaners are doing it for themselves’). Most inventively, there’s lesbefriendsreunited, which promises to ‘take you back to “them good
ole days” and hook you up with those girlies you just knew were batting for the same team’. You can also subscribe to an email newsletter that will keep you updated on special events.
