- Description
- Publication with an overview of expressions for menstruation worldwide, often still a taboo and difficult to discuss publicly. The euphemisms women use hide a lot, but also tell about traditions, customs, dealing with sexuality and the challenges and consequences that menstruation poses for women. This book has been compiled as part of the project 'Menstrual Hygiene for Girls and Women in Developing Countries' to facilitate discussion about sexuality, including menstruation and menstrual hygiene. The expressions are arranged by category. Each category contains a list of the expression in its original language, the Dutch and English translation, and whether the expression is also used in other languages. Illustrated with images of works of art in which artists have depicted the euphemisms.

- Description
- This book explores the use of Twitter as a communication platform by marginalized groups. It shows how groups such as Afro-Americans, women and transgender people, who were long excluded from elite media spaces, use Twitter hashtags to advocate, mobilize, and communicate. The authors describe how hashtags including #MeToo and #SurvivorPrivilege challenged the conventional understanding of gendered violence. They examine the voices and stories of black feminism enabled by #FastTailedGirls and #SayHerName and explore the use of #GirlsLikeUs, a network of transgender women. The authors also investigate the digital signatures of the “new civil rights movement”, that set the stage for #BlackLivesMatter.

- Description
- This volume gathers essays on literature from Ovid to Carmen Maria Machado, by academics working across the United States and around the world, who offer ways of using reading, teaching, and critical practices to address rape culture and sexual violence. It also examines the promise and limitations of the #MeToo movement itself, speaking to the productive use of social media as well as to the voices that the movement has so far muted. In uniting diverse voices to enable the #MeToo movement to reshape literary studies, this book is also committed to the idea that the way we read and write about literature can make real change in the world.

- Description
- Pastor and rape survivor Ruth Everhart shines a light on the prevalence of sexual abuse and misconduct within Protestant Christian faith communities in the United States. Victims are routinely ignored by fellow Christians who deny their accounts and fail to bring accountability to the perpetrators. All too often, churches have been complicit in protecting abusers, reinforcing patriarchal power dynamics, and creating cultures of secrecy, shame, and silence. .The author discloses stories of how she and others have experienced assault in church settings, highlighting the damage done to individuals, families, and communities. Combined with scriptural narratives like those of Tamar and Bathsheba and the accounts of Jesus' interactions with women. With a call for action to churches to embrace the reckoning of the #MeToo movement before gender equality will be achieved.
