- The volume seeks to investigate the importance of women's relationship with citizenship and nationality, based on an analysis of writings in various European contexts, from the 17th century to the present. The essays show that women’s writing has helped to re-shape traditional concepts of the nation and explore the history of cross-cultural identities. Among the themes discussed are: the construction of female identity through religious ideology, the importance of translation and cultural studies as a source of feminine knowledge, and the relationship between public life and private domain within the multiculturalism of Europe.
