Historical Note

Founded in 1987; the first step was a symposium in September 1986 on 'Working Strategies and Aims of Women Artists Associations - An International Comparison'; was a European network of Women Art Associations, among them the Dutch SVBK, Stichting Vrouwen in de Beeldende Kunst (Foundation of Women in the Visual Arts) and the Frauenmuseum in Bonn; aimed at mutual support in order to strengthen the position of women artists in the international art world by building up a network of information, organizing exhibitions and symposiums, stimulating research on the mechanisms of the art circuit, documenting the work of contemporary as well as historical women artists, and co-operating with museums, galleries and international institutions.
